List of Projects - Summary
The vision we have in mind, as you will see below, is a big one that will take more than one generation to implement. While it may seem ambitious, we prefer to reach for the sky than to simply try to raise only $500. The projects that will be launched will last for at least 50 years. At least, that is the plan, provided we obtain the necessary funding.
Too often relief work is short-term with no long term commitment to permanently eradicate problems. In many instances, after the crusades and relief missions, people revert back to old patterns, wrong thinking and crooked decision-making patterns that keep them permanently in a rut. We're in this for the long term.
We are convinced that there are good people out there (such as you reading this page) who are eager to support good projects.
We have set the goal of raising at least 1 million dollars by the end of 2006. We expect to exceed this goal or ... at least try to reach it. (Nothing ventured, nothing gained.) Destinies of nations depend on us and we can make a difference. Consequently, we have decided to do whatever it takes to reach our generation and lay a good foundation for the next generation. We intend to approach development from a different perspective. We can make a difference. The possibilities are endless and we could do so much together. Please help us in whatever way you can.

Children, Youth and Young Adults

Population To Be Served
We will target the disadvantaged and
under-developed children, youth and young adults from a total family
income of less than 60,000 Leones monthly or ($20 monthly) in
Freetown
,
Sierra Leone
,
West Africa
. Typically, members of this segment of society have not had
access to essential training and opportunities that will facilitate
their growth into healthy, viable and productive citizens.
A significant percentage of the population of
Freetown
have had inadequate or no training in the areas of personal hygiene,
health and nutrition, HIV Aids Prevention, empowerment skills for
success in life and business, computer technology, leadership etc.
We envision nurturing and empowering them to become productive citizens
that will assume leadership and contribute to national development.
Full Description
Develop Africa is dedicated to enhancing the
well-being of children and families in
Africa
whose lives have been devastated by civil war, mismanagement, corruption
and poverty. This specific project will support the development programs
of Develop Africa’s Center for Total Education and Development (CTED)
in
Freetown
,
Sierra Leone
. The CTED will provide training in personal hygiene, health and
nutrition, HIV Aids Prevention, empowerment skills for success in life
and business, basic computer skills, leadership skills, commitment to
nationalism, career counseling etc to low-income families in the
impoverished and overpopulated areas of Freetown. Training will
additionally be offered to the general public and government officials.
Project Details
The CTED will supplement the development
resources and offerings provided by the government, social and other
non-governmental organizations. With a focus on resource and human
development, this project will target the development of
Africa
’s human resources through the promotion of transformational
education, resource development, investment training and strategic
empowerment. Our premise is based on the notion that in order to change
one’s personal, national or organizational status there must
necessarily be a “change in the thinking and processing pattern of the
mind.”
This project will focus on the development of the three important S’s:
Self-Concept, Self-Worth and Self-Value to sustain national growth and
develop human resources and potential.
Africa
has plentiful human resources and human capital that are under-developed
and under-utilized. Emphasis will be on providing for the
development and optimization of human resources (resources that are
often neglected or inadequately catered for when national development is
discussed). We envision an African continent fully developed in
terms of its human and resource capacity, free from civil conflict and
poverty; where the poorest and most vulnerable people become
“leaders” and effectively manage national resources.
Training will be provided through facilities at the CTED and also at
schools and pilot locations throughout
Freetown
. As resources permit, the CTED will work with schools and
universities to fill gaps in their educational offerings.
In order to broaden our impact, efforts will also be
directed towards influencing government policy in order to provide
better educational facilities and offerings particularly for children
from low-income families. Training will also be offered to
government officials in areas such as basic computer skills and
leadership. Additional seminars will be organized that will be
open to the general public. A range of avenues (such as
miscellaneous literature, billboards, radio and other media channels
etc) will be used to educate the general public in our areas of
emphasis.
